STAR PREVIEW Mondays World Cup games

first_imgUruguay v RussiaFIFA World Cup 2018 Group Stage15:00 ITVSimultaneous viewing for the final Group matches and not much at stake in the 3pm games.Uruguay and Russia have both already qualified with just the issue of who goes through as winners to be resolved. The market doesn’t offer many clues. Russia, as hosts, have started the tournament well and could go further than their current outright price tag indicates and will no doubt be keen to keep up the winning momentum.Certainly, they have played better than their ranking of worst team in the tournament would have indicated – knocking in eight goals in their two victories over Egypt and Saudi Arabia.Russia just need a point to go through as Group A winners but a small bet on them doing it in style at 19/10 with should give us a good spin.RECOMMENDED BETS (scale of 1-100 points)BACK RUSSIA for 5 points at 19/10 with starsports.betCLICK HERE FOR STARSPORTS.BET MARKET Saudi Arabia v EgyptFIFA World Cup 2018 Group Stage15:00 ITV4The last round of matches in the World Cup can often be the trickiest to bet on. We have seen the 32 teams twice now, but upto a third of them can be already eliminated and national pride is the main motivation for both Saudi Arabia and Egypt ahead of their last game.In any normal situation, this would be an easy selection – the 5/6 on Egypt beating a side vastly inferior in all measures – but three has been precious little to like about their campaign. With Mohamed Salah tearing apart defences in Europe, hopes were very high for the Pharoes to repeat one of the African Cup performances on the world stage, but one bad Sergio Ramos challenge left him needing surgery and it’s clear Egypt have missed his presence hugely. They had their hearts broken by Uruguay in the last minutes – although they were losing the argument then – and brought Salah back from the start for their crunch clash with Russia. That game was tight in the first half, but it was clear that he was not fully fit and once Fathi, tried to make a clearance, lost his balance and saw Zobnin’s shot bounce off his knee and into the net they were outpointed in every aspect of the game by the Russians – especially in the meters covered – and until Salah’s VAR awarded penalty they were being beaten almost as comprehensively as Saudi Arabia had been at times.Saudi Arabia’s opening ‘show’ against Russia was a bit of a black mark for them – for all that it might look less embarrassing given the Russian performance – but they deserve credit for tightening up significantly against a Uruguay side fancied to put several past them. A much more dogged and deep lying defensive style was employed in midweek to prevent more embarrassment and to their credit, outside of set pieces, they did not have a huge amount of difficulty keeping the admittedly disappointing Suarez and Cavani at bay.Long story short, there’s not much attractive about either of the two sides. If there is a wager, it’s probably the 8/11 on Under 2.5 goals – Egypt have netted in just two of their last six matches.RECOMMENDED BETS (scale of 1-100 points)BACK UNDER 2.5 GOALS for 10 points at 8/11 with starsports.betCLICK HERE FOR STARSPORTS.BET MARKET Iran v PortugalFIFA World Cup 2018 Group Stage19:00 BBC OneCristiano Ronaldo’s joint-top 4 goals have fired his nation onto the brink of the last 16 here in Russia, with just one team left to play in the group, Portugal and Ronaldo will be looking to finish the group in style. But the Iranians have proven to be a formidable defensive force, and with a win able to send themselves through, it’s not going to be a straightforward match for the European Champions here in Saransk.Carlos Queiroz’s men have been one of the most well drilled teams this summer so far, will a resilient opening game against Morocco, the 1-0 loss to Spain last time out didn’t do them justice. Having created numerous chances going forward, just the one mistake proved costly, which means they’ll need a historic victory against Portugal to avoid an early exit. With a tense tight affair expected, goals could be at a premium, the 0-0 Half Time Correct Score at 6/4 looks the most obvious bet. That all seems reliant on keeping that man Ronaldo quiet, and it seems if any team so far is up to the task, its Iran. But a win is a must if they want to qualify, and as the game goes on, ‘Team Melli’ may have to really gamble. But against a team like Portugal, that could be costly, and Gelson Martins, is serious threat on the break. The pacey winger chipped in with 8 goals and 8 assists in the league for Sporting Lisbon this season, we think he could break his national team duck here, and at 7/4 Anytime he’s appeals at much better value than CR7.RECOMMENDED BETS (scale of 1-100 points)BACK HALF TIME SCORE 0-0 for 9 points at 6/4 with starsports.betBACK GELSON MARTINS ANYTIME for 9 points at 7/4 with starsports.betCLICK HERE FOR STARSPORTS.BET MARKET Spain v MoroccoFIFA World Cup 2018 Group Stage19:00 BBC FourSpain might have ridden their luck for a 1-0 win against Iran last week, but Fernando Hierro and his men will be happy with their lot and they can progress to the last 16 with a win against Morocco.Following their nail biter against Iran a draw would be enough but on the balance of 180 minutes they ought to be in the last 16 already. Their 3-3 draw against Portugal was the game of the tournament, but they were denied by a sensational Cristiano Ronaldo hat-trick and even then, there are mitigating circumstances.Ronaldo’s opening penalty was a poor call and his second was a snap shot that produced a rare howler from David De Gea. His free kick was an incredible effort, although upon replaying Sergio Ramos will have been annoyed with the manner of the foul that he gave away.Spain had 67% of the ball, won the shout count 13-9, and the shots on target count 6-3 and also managed to get the best out of Diego Costa who scored two goals in what was one of the better showings from the leading contenders. They found the going much harder against a very disciplined and diligent Iran side that did have a goal disallowed (correctly) through VAR along with some big chances, but they dominated the huge majority of the game. La Roja had a staggering 78% of the ball and Alireza Beiranvand had an exceptional game to keep them out for as long as they did.Morocco are out but they could just as easily have had six points and they will feel incredibly aggrieved not to have come out of their 1-0 defeats to Spain and Portugal with nothing. Four golden chances in the first 10 minutes were missed against an Iranian side who eventually shocked them and after Portugal’s early goal they dominated the rest of their encounter, winning the shot count 16-10.They have a midfield that can match Spain going forward if they choose to with the trio of Mbark Boussoufa, Younes Belhanda, and Karim El Ahmadi all impressing, but their conversion has let them down and they will need to be better to get a real stake in the game here.If they choose to go forward, then the counter opens up for Spain and La Roja should be able to go through with a win by hook or by crook. The 1-0 correct score once again – both Morocco’s opponents have scored just the once – makes appeal from the correct score options.Isco has been a fantastic presence in midfield through the tournament but Spanish goal look most likely to come from Diego Costa (3/4 to score anytime with and he makes appeal to get on the scoresheet first at 13/5. It could take them quite a while to do so on previous evidence, however, so have a speculative wager on the first goal coming between 46 and 60 minutes (7/1 with Iran held out for 51 minutes and Spain have shown time and time again they are willing to wait and show the patience to break such teams down whilst Morocco have enough technical ability to make a strong first of things in midfield. This could take a while to open up and if it does, the bet could be a live runner.RECOMMENDED BETS (scale of 1-100 points)BACK FIRST GOAL BETWEEN 46 and 60 MINUTES for 5 points at 7/1 with starsports.betBACK 1-0 SPAIN CORRECT SCORE for 5 points at 9/2 with starsports.betBACK DIEGO COSTA FIRST GOALSCORER for 5 points at 13/5 with starsports.betCLICK HERE FOR STARSPORTS.BET MARKET PROFIT/LOSS SINCE JAN 1 2017: PROFIT 196.14 pointslast_img read more
