Relive The Epic “Chalkdust Torture” From Phish’s IT Festival, Played 15 Years Ago Today [Pro-Shot]

first_img15 years ago today, Phish wrapped their sixth festival, IT, at Loring Air Force Base Limestone, ME. IT marked the third Phish festival in Limestone (along with 1998’s Lemonwheel and 1997’s The Great Went). Although not quite the size of Phish’s Big Cypress festival at the turn of the millennium, IT still goes down as one of the largest Phish shows ever, with more than 60,000 fans in attendance.Following a memorable opening night featuring three standout sets and the storied late-night “Tower Jam”—which saw the band perform an hour of improv atop the old air traffic control tower next to the concert field as Chris Kuroda illuminated the structure with lights and dancers floated next to it on wires—Phish was already travelling at full speed when they began IT’s second and final day.In addition to a lengthy list of other highlights, each of the 8/3/03’s three sets wound up producing top-tier renditions of fan-favorite Phish songs that remain among the best the band have played—from the bullet-train “Chalkdust Torture” in the first set, to the complex, layered monster of a “Ghost” in set two, to the XXL “46 Days” that opened the weekend’s sixth and final frame. The second day of IT—and IT, as a whole—ranks among the best festival performances Phish has ever given. Below, you can relive IT with full pro-shot footage of the 24-minute, all-time great “Chalkdust Torture” played in Limestone, ME 15 years ago today.Phish–”Chalk Dust Torture”[Video: justin]You can also listen to audio of all three sets below:Phish – IT – 8/3/03 [Video: fromtheaquarium]Setlist: Phish | IT Festival | Limestone, ME | 8/3/2003Set one: Daniel Saw the Stone> Saw It Again, Punch You In The Eye, Army of One> Chalk Dust Torture, Wilson, Mike’s Song> I Am Hydrogen> Weekapaug GrooveSet two: Mellow Mood> Ghost> Mountains In The Mist, Pebbles and Marbles, You Enjoy Myself> Chariots of Fire> Loving CupSet three: 46 Days, Julius> The Lizards, Secret Smile> Run Like An AntelopeEncore: Good Times Bad Timeslast_img
