first_imgThe Government doesn’t know the extent of ‘Pre-Fab’ Schooling in Donegal, claims TD Thomas Pringle.Deputy Thomas PringleThe Independent Deputy claims Donegal Town school Gaelscoil na gCeithre Máistrí is missing from the Education Minister list of schools in Donegal with pre-fab classrooms. He says the school, located in four pre-fabs, failed to turn up on a list of schools identified by the Department across the country as having pre-fab classrooms and no permanent structure. Pringle stated ‘This is a worrying sign that the Government is unaware of the full extent of pre-fab schooling in Donegal and perhaps in the rest of the country.’According to Pringle, the school suffers from poor insulation, single glaze windows and very high heating costs and is in ‘urgent need of repair’.To date, the school has not been considered for emergency works by the Department of Education despite a number of applications and representations made on its behalf.‘What has been frustrating for the parents and teachers of the school is that planning permission was granted to build a new 8 classroom school on a site the Department already owns. It’s even fully serviced with water, sewerage and electricity facilities. But the school needs funding so it can progress to the construction stage as soon as possible’ explains Pringle. ‘I’m concerned that Gaelscoil na gCeithre Máistrí will be left out of the Capital Investment programme announced this week because its needs are simply not documented by the Department. It’s particularly worrying as this Capital Investment programme has promised to end pre-fab schooling once and for all.’‘A good place to start would be to correctly document the schools across the country and the extent to which they use pre-fabs for classrooms. I will be bringing this anomaly to the attention of the Minister and will expect an explanation as to why Gaelscoil Máistrí was omitted’ concludes Pringle.PRINGLE CLAIMS GOVT DOESN’T KNOW EXTENT OF ‘PRE-FAB’ SCHOOLS IN DONEGAL was last modified: September 30th, 2015 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:Donegal Townpre-fabsschoolsThomas Pringlelast_img read more
