Starwood stars Australia for new hotel

first_imgStarwood Hotels have revealed work is underway to for a new property in Australia to open by the first quarter of next year, and will announce  by the end of 2011 which brand the investment will be representing under the Starwood umbrella as well as its secret location. The news broke at the launch of Starwood’s Villa Collection of Asia Pacific properties Australian launch, which firmly stamps the hospitality giant’s foray into the luxury market in the region. The group’s 200 properties across its three top end brands, St Regis, W Hotels and The Luxury Collection across the Asia Pacific are quickly being recognised as holiday resorts, according to visiting Director, Leisure, Luxury Sales AP, Bob Lunnon. “The new Villa Collection will only be added to the existing luxury space and brands we have,” Mr Lunnon said. With 57 luxury hotels in the pipeline worldwide, Mr Lunnon said the group’s expansion would be greater than Mandarin Oriental, Ritz Carlton or Four Seasons properties combined. Key growth areas include China, India, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Indonesia, where in 2012 will catapult the group as the largest operator in Bali following the opening of a Le Meridian in beachside Jimbaran. “There is a market for travellers in the luxury space … they want villas, and it also fits well with the family market,” Mr Lunnon said, explaining the rapid expansion.“The growing traveller has emerged out of the GFC and they want to treat themselves, and we’re covering all market segments.” Source = e-Travel Blackboard: D.M Starwood’s Daniella Tonetto & Bob Lunnon in Sydneylast_img
